Being into healthy eating, I often use bran in my diet. Recently I thought “How about adding bran to my desserts as well?” The idea was very tempting! And here it is, the first bran dessert recipe in this blog – and I promise there will be more delicious and healthy desserts made with bran.
Since I’m a huge fan of chocolate, I was thinking on how to incorporate bran naturally into a chocolate dessert:) Also I was thinking for a while about making a dessert with sunflower seeds (I like them as well!) so I came up with a very simple recipe that included, as you can guess, all three desired ingredients: chocolate, bran, and sunflower seeds.
What do you get as a result? A stunning delicious chocolate dessert, with low cholesterol, sugar, and sodium – but with lots of healthful fiber. Since each square contains only 93 calories, you can eat this dessert guilt-free for a breakfast, lunch, snack – and don’t skip dinner as well
Dark chocolate, non-sugar – 100 g (3.5 oz)*
Low-fat 1% milk – ¼ cup
Sunflower seed kernels, dry roasted – ¼ cup**
Bran buds – ¼ cup***
*I used sugar free dark chocolate but you can go with a regular one.
**Not a big fan of sunflower seeds? Use your favorite nuts or dry fruits instead, ¼ cup in total.
***You can substitute your favorite healthy cereal for bran buds. Just check if it contains enough fiber since it’s our major point in this recipe☺
1. In a large bowl, combine seeds and bran cereal.
2. Melt the chocolate and milk in the microwave. Stir until smooth. Pour chocolate in the seed and cereal mixture and immediately spread think on a baking pan covered with a parchment paper.
3. Cool in the freezer or in the refrigerator. When completely cool, cut into pieces and serve. The leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
